Pratapgarh, town, southern Rajasthan state, northwestern India. It lies in an upland region about 40 miles (64 km) northeast of Banswara.
The town was founded in 1689 and was the capital of the princely state of Partabgarh (founded in the 15th century), which became part of the state of Rajasthan in 1948. Historic monuments include a palace and several ancient Jaina and Hindu temples. Pratapgarh is an agricultural market centre with hand-loom weaving and cotton-ginning industries. The town has a government college affiliated with the University of Rajasthan in Jaipur. Pop. (2001) 35,422; (2011) 42,079.
