Albert Bassermann (born Sept. 7, 1867, Mannheim, Baden [Germany]—died May 15, 1952, Zürich, Switz.) was a stage and screen actor known as one of the finest German interpreters of Henrik Ibsen. Bassermann began his career in Mannheim in 1887 and during engagements in several cities established himself in character roles from the works of William Shakespeare, Friedrich von Schiller, and J.W. von Goethe. From 1890 to 1895 he was with the Meiningen court theatre, and in 1899 he joined Otto Brahm in Berlin, where he established his reputation as an excellent interpreter of Ibsen.
