Arvid Bernhard, Count Horn (born April 6, 1664, Åbo, Fin.—died April 17, 1742, Ekebyholm, Swed.) was a Swedish soldier and statesman who played a key role in beginning Sweden’s 18th-century Age of Freedom—a 52-year period of parliamentary rule. Entering the Swedish Army in 1682, Horn served with distinction in Hungary and in the Low Countries. His military prowess led to his being chosen military tutor for the future king Charles XII (reigned 1697–1718).
