Bernie Grant (born February 17, 1944, Georgetown, British Guiana [now Guyana]—died April 8, 2000, London, England) was a British politician who, with Paul Boateng and Diane Abbott, was one of the first persons of African descent to win election to the House of Commons. The son of educators, he attended St. Stanislaus College, one of the finest schools in British Guiana. In the early 1960s he moved to the United Kingdom and became a clerk with British Rail before attending Tottenham Technical College and Heriot-Watt University.
