Elizabeth Vargas (born September 6, 1962, Paterson, New Jersey, U.S.) is an American television journalist best known as a coanchor of the ABC (American Broadcasting Company) news programs World News Tonight and 20/20. Vargas earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Missouri in 1984 and soon began working as a reporter and anchor for KOMU television in Columbia, Missouri. After a brief stint in Reno, Nevada, she became a reporter for the ABC affiliate KTVK in Phoenix in 1986.
