George Carew, earl of Totnes (born May 29, 1555—died March 27, 1629, London, Eng.) was an English soldier, administrator, and antiquary noted for his service in Ireland during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I of England. He was the son of George Carew, dean of Windsor. In 1574 he went to Ireland as a soldier and distinguished himself in 1577 in defending Leighlin Castle, County Carlow, from the Irish rebels.
