George R.R. Martin (born September 20, 1948, Bayonne, New Jersey, U.S.) is an American writer of fantasy, best known for his Song of Ice and Fire series (1996– ), a bloody saga about various factions vying for control of a fictional kingdom. It was adapted into the hugely popular TV show Game of Thrones (2011–19) and inspired the spin-off series House of the Dragon (2022– ).
