Jo Grimond (born July 29, 1913, St. Andrews, Fife, Scot.—died Oct. 24, 1993, Kirkwall, Orkney Islands) was the leader of the British Liberal Party during its resurgence after World War II. Educated at Eton and the University of Oxford, Grimond was called to the bar in 1937. After serving as an officer in the British army from 1939 to 1947, he was appointed secretary of the Scottish National Trust, an organization concerned with the preservation of historic buildings.
