Jon Scieszka (born September 8, 1954, Flint, Michigan, U.S.) is an American children’s author and educator perhaps best known for his book The Stinky Cheese Man, and Other Fairly Stupid Tales (1992). Scieszka, an avid reader in his youth, said that he found such schoolroom staples as the Dick and Jane readers—a series of illustrated books presenting simple narratives intended to instruct young children in reading—to be akin to “bad castor oil medicine.” He sought out his own pleasure reading; one of his favourite books was the whimsical Go, Dog, Go! by P.D.
