Ludwig Pastor, baron von Campersfelden (born Jan. 31, 1854, Aachen, Prussia [Germany]—died Sept. 30, 1928, Innsbruck, Austria) was a German author of one of the monumental papal histories, Geschichte der Päpste seit dem Ausgang des Mittelalters, 16 vol. (1886–1933; History of the Popes from the Close of the Middle Ages). While a student, Pastor became acquainted with the leading historians of his day. He became a lecturer at the University of Innsbruck (1881), where, in 1887, he was appointed professor of modern history.
