Mahadevi (flourished 12th century ce) was a Hindu poet-saint of the Karnataka region of India. Married to a local king against her will, Mahadevi subsequently left her husband and renounced the world. Legend has it that she wandered naked, singing songs of passionate love for her “true husband,” the god Shiva.
