Mike Gravel (born May 13, 1930, Springfield, Massachusetts, U.S.—died June 26, 2021, Seaside, California) was an American politician who served as a member of the U.S. Senate (1969–81) and who sought the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination. He also staged a short-lived protest campaign during the 2020 presidential race. After serving in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1954, Gravel attended Columbia University in New York City and received a bachelor’s degree in 1956.
