Peter Rodino (born June 7, 1909, Newark, N.J., U.S.—died May 7, 2005, West Orange, N.J.) was an American politician who served for 40 years as a Democratic representative from New Jersey in the U.S. House of Representatives (1949–89). As chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, he steered the 1974 impeachment hearings of Pres. Richard M. Nixon during the Watergate Scandal. He was known for his advocacy of civil rights and immigration reform and for having introduced the bill that made Columbus Day a national holiday.
