Bresslau, “Pufendorf, Samuel,” in Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie, vol. 26 (1888, reprinted 1970); and Paul Meyer, Samuel Pufendorf: ein Beitrig zur Gesichte seines Lebens (1894), are excellent biographies. Pufendorf’s impact on natural law philosophy is treated in Knud Haakonssen (ed.), Grotius, Pufendorf, and Modern Natural Law (1999); and Leonard Krieger, The Politics of Discretion: Pufendorf and the Acceptance of Natural Law (1965).
