Sir Andrew Noble, 1st Baronet (born Sept. 13, 1831, Greenock, Renfrew, Scot.—died Oct. 22, 1915, Argyll) was a Scottish physicist and gunnery expert, considered a founder of the science of ballistics. His pioneering research on fired gunpowder, often in conjunction with the British chemist Frederick Abel, contributed greatly to the progress of gunnery. Noble was educated at Edinburgh Academy and the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, London, and then entered the Royal Artillery in 1849.
