Susan La Flesche Picotte (born June 17, 1865, Omaha Reservation, present-day Nebraska, U.S.—died September 18, 1915, Walthill, Nebraska) was the first Native American to earn a medical degree in the United States. La Flesche Picotte dedicated herself to the care of the Omaha tribal community to which she belonged. She helped community members receive medical care, worked to implement public health measures, and advocated for the interests of Indigenous peoples.
