Viola Allen (born October 27, 1869, Huntsville, Alabama, U.S.—died May 10, 1948, New York, New York) was an American actress, especially famous for her Shakespearean roles and for her roles in Frances Eliza Burnett’s Little Lord Fauntleroy and Bronson Howard’s Shenandoah, both extremely popular plays. Born into a theatrical family, Allen made her debut at age 14 in New York City in the title role of Burnett’s Esmeralda. Between 1884 and 1886 she appeared in a variety of modern and Shakespearean plays with the best-known 19th-century actors and in Little Lord Fauntleroy and Shenandoah (1888–89).
