Pebble tools, including choppers and chopping tools, are found in the Pleistocene terrace deposits of the Irrawaddy River valley of northern Myanmar. This complex is known as the Anyathian. The Early Anyathian is characterized by single-edged core implements made on natural fragments of fossil wood and silicified tuff, and these are associated with flake implements. In the Late Anyathian, a direct development from the earlier stage, smaller and better-made core and flake artifacts are found.
