Borūjerd, chief town, Borūjerd shahrestān (county), Lorestān ostān (province), western Iran. Borūjerd is situated 5,500 feet (1,700 metres) above sea level, below high mountains, in a wide, fertile valley. It is a flourishing regional centre on the main highway from the Persian Gulf and Khūzestān to Tehrān; it is connected by roads with Hamadān and Kermānshāhān ostāns. The district has many traces of ancient settlement in the form of tappehs, or mounds. Pop. (2011) 240,654; (2016) 234,997.
