Brampton Island, one of the Cumberland Islands off the northeastern coast of Queensland, Australia, 20 miles (32 km) northeast across the Hillsborough Channel (Coral Sea) from Mackay, to which it is connected by launch and air service. An inshore coral-fringed continental island, it has an area of 3 square miles (8 square km) and rises to 710 feet (215 m) in forested hills. It is a well-developed holiday resort of the Great Barrier Reef.
