Bucheon, city, Gyeonggi do (province), northwestern South Korea, located halfway between Seoul and Incheon. It became a municipality in 1973 and developed rapidly as a satellite city of Seoul. Industries include the manufacture of chemicals, semiconductors, machinery, lighting, and plastics. The surrounding area is well known for its peaches. The city is also known for cultural activities such as film and animation production and hosts an annual international film festival (July). Pop. (2020) 833,148.
