Évry, new town (French ville nouvelle), département of Essonne, Île-de-France région in north-central France. Évry is approximately 17 miles (27 km) southeast of Paris and is one of several new towns developed outside the capital since 1965. Évry is linked to Paris by highway and railway. The new town encompasses the commune of Évry, formerly Évry-Petit-Bourg, and the communes of Bondoufle, Courcouronnes, and Lisses. Évry is a centre for a wide range of business services. It has a university and a large central retailing and leisure complex. Various industrial estates and office parks were developed as an integral part of the new town. Industries include food processing, printing, and the manufacture of machinery and electronics. Research-based activities have also been established in Évry, particularly in the biotechnology and space fields. Pop. (1999) 49,437; (2014 est.) 53,699.
