Hesdin, town, Pas-de-Calais département, Hauts-de-France région, northern France, 20 miles (32 km) north-northeast of Abbeville. It was founded in 1554 by the Holy Roman emperor Charles V and was the birthplace of 18th-century French novelist the Abbé Prévost. It is now an agricultural market centre with tanning and hosiery industries. The historic site of the Battle of Agincourt (1415) is nearby. Pop. (1999) 2,686; (2014 est.) 2,201.
