Litvínov, industrial commune, northwestern Czech Republic. Located at the foot of the Krušné Hory (Ore Mountains), the commune was created in 1950 from the villages of Horní Litvínov, Dolní Litvínov, Chudeřín, Lipětín, and Rauchengrund and has become part of the Most-Záluží-Litvínov industrial complex. Brown coal (lignite) is mined, and there is metallurgical industry in the city of Litvínov; it also has chemical and petrochemical complexes. Záluží has a petroleum refinery. Litvínov also is a major producer of cotton textiles and clothing. Pop. (2007 est.) 27,079.
