Mogi das Cruzes, city, southeastern São Paulo estado (state), southeastern Brazil. It lies at 2,493 feet (760 metres) above sea level on the Tietê River, just east of São Paulo city. Formerly known as M’bboygi and Santana das Cruzes de Mogi Mirim, it gained town status in 1611 and was made the seat of a municipality in 1855.

Mogi das Cruzes is important in both agriculture and industry. It supplies feijão (beans) and fruits for urban centres in the São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro region, and it has sawmills, tanneries, steel mills, and plants manufacturing ceramics, automotive equipment, paper, textiles, and chemical products. Goods are transported by rail or road; the city also has an airport. The University of Mogi das Cruzes (1973) is located there. Pop. (2010) 387,779.
