Norilsk, city, Krasnoyarsk kray (territory), central Russia, in the Rybnaya Valley amid the Putoran Mountains. Founded in 1935, Norilsk lies north of the Arctic Circle and is one of the world’s leading producing centres for nickel and platinum. Copper is also mined. Power is supplied to Norilsk by hydroelectric plants on the Khantayka and Kureyka rivers, and natural gas is piped from northern Tyumen oblast (region). A railway links Norilsk to the port of Dudinka, situated on the Yenisey River. Pop. (2006 est.) 213,153.
