Phra Nakhon, section of Bangkok Metropolis, Thailand’s capital and largest city, on the east bank of the Mae Nam (river) Chao Phraya. It was a changwat (province) until 1972, when it was merged with Thon Buri, west of the river, to form the enlarged province of Krung Thep Mahanakhon (Bangkok Metropolis).
