Ribeira, city, A Coruña provincia (province), in the comunidad autónoma (autonomous community) of Galicia, northwestern Spain. The city lies on the Arousa Inlet across the inlet from Vilagarcia de Arousa, in the coastal zone. Remains of Roman fortifications and of a Phoenician port, La Covasa, attest to early occupation of the site, although the city was not established in its modern sense until the 19th century. Ribeira is a seaside resort and fishing port, with factories for canning seafood, processing fish and flour, and building marine motors. Pop. (2007 est.) mun., 27,181.
