Ryedale, district, administrative county of North Yorkshire, historic county of Yorkshire, northern England. It is named for a small dale and river draining into the Vale of Pickering. Malton is the administrative centre. The predominantly rural district is the largest in area in North Yorkshire. It includes the Vale of Pickering and the ring of highlands that enclose it: the Hambleton and Howardian hills, the escarpment of the Yorkshire Wolds, and the heather-covered North York Moors.
