Satun, town, southern Thailand, on the Malay Peninsula. Satun remains a small community at the end of a branch road; its shallow coastal waters are unsuitable for port development. The area in which Satun is situated was historically part of Kedah state (now in Malaysia). It includes several offshore islands. Rice, rubber, and coconuts are the main agricultural products, and there is some lumbering and tin mining. Pop. (2000) 28,109.
