Shuya, city and centre of a rayon (sector), Ivanovo oblast (region), western Russia, lying along the Teza River. Originally a trading centre dating from the 16th century, the city now has numerous industries, including cotton and synthetic fabric processing, machine building, and various light industries. Shuya also has a teacher-training institute and a medical school. Pop. (2006 est.) 60,026.
