Women’s British Open, golf tournament conducted annually that is recognized by the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) as one of the four major tournaments in women’s golf. The event is open to all qualified amateur and professional female golfers and is held at a variety of golf courses throughout the United Kingdom. Originally known as the Ladies’ British Open, the tournament was first held in 1976 at Fulford Golf Club in Yorkshire, Eng.
