Eastern Kentucky University, public, coeducational institution of higher learning in Richmond, Kentucky, U.S. The university offers an undergraduate curriculum in the arts, sciences, business, education, allied health professions, and law enforcement; it also offers master’s degree programs in most of these areas. Doctoral programs are offered jointly with cooperating institutions. Total enrollment is approximately 16,000. The university was established as Eastern Kentucky State Normal School by the state legislature in 1906 and instruction began the same year.
