Salterton trilogy, series of novels by Robertson Davies, consisting of Tempest-Tost (1951), Leaven of Malice (1954), and A Mixture of Frailties (1958). The books are comedies of manners that are loosely connected by their setting in Salterton, a provincial Canadian university town, and a number of recurring characters. Tempest-Tost concerns the efforts of a local theatre company to put on a production of William Shakespeare’s The Tempest. Leaven of Malice opens with the placement of a false notice of engagement in the local paper and examines the effects of the practical joke on those involved as they try to discover ...(100 of 140 words)
