Winter’s Tales, collection of short stories by Isak Dinesen, originally published in Danish as Vinter-eventyr in 1942 and then translated by the author into English in the same year. Mostly set against the backdrop of historic Denmark, the 11 stories trace the symbolic destinies of simple characters caught up in expansive, romantic situations. Based on a Danish folktale, “Sorrow Acre” is one of the author’s best-known works.
