During her acceptance speech for the 1929 Pictorial Review Annual Achievement Award, Florence Rena Sabin said, Sabin, an anatomist, was one of the leading scientists in the United States. In 1925 she had become the first woman elected to the U.S. National Academy of Sciences. But she underestimated the challenges facing women as scientists.
