Yerma, tragedy in three acts by Federico García Lorca, produced in 1934 and published in 1937. It is the second play in a trilogy that also includes Blood Wedding and The House of Bernarda Alba. The drama’s frustrated title character cannot accept her childlessness, and she is driven to increasingly irrational behaviour, finally strangling her husband.
