theodicy: References & Edit History

Additional Reading

Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibniz, Theodicy: Essays on the Goodness of God, the Freedom of Man, and the Origin of Evil, ed. by Austin Farrer (1951, reissued 2001; originally published in French, 1710), is a classic discussion of theodicy. Alvin Plantinga, God, Freedom, and Evil (1974), distinguishes between a theodicy and a defense. Richard Swinburne, Providence and the Problem of Evil (1998), is an ambitious attempt by a contemporary philosopher of religion to sketch a possible theodicy.
