The first person in space, Yuri Gagarin, returned to Earth hundreds of miles off course, landing in a potato field. A woman and her granddaughter were planting when he landed and thought he was a spy or an alien. After convincing them he was a fellow Russian, he borrowed a horse to ride to the nearest telephone.
